AKAGI(?) (ニセ アカギ)
voiced by Sato Ginpei (佐藤 銀平)
The man knew he looked a lot like Akagi: silver hair, long nose, narrow eyes. He hoped Yasuoka had meant it as a compliment. Well, it wasn’t like it mattered all that much. He was smart, he had a photographic memory, he could play, and it wasn’t like Mahjong was anything other than a game of statistics. All he needed to do was keep track of the likelihood of getting any particular tile at any given time. That’s all there was to it. No tricks, no luck, just probability and averages. It was easy playing against idiots that depended on so-called instinct, and that couldn’t see the game for what it really was. Still, Akagi’s name seemed to have some weight among these lowlife yakuza, so he might as well use it. It had been six years; it wasn’t like Akagi was going to come back anyway…

He is the Fake Akagi, and a good many things that Akagi is not. They’re practically opposites, and the only things they have in common are Yasuoka, Mahjong, smokes, and looks.
First off, he’s sane. He doesn’t take risks and he doesn’t bet irreplaceable things on the results of a gamble. Fake Akagi is not a gambler, and probably never will be. He has no poker face and loses his composure far too easily, prone to insulting others and pointing fingers at people in agitation. If one wants to be uncharitable, one can say that the man has no balls. He responds to things the way a normal person would, and that’s why he’s no match for a real Mahjong player.
Second, the man is a peacock compared to Akagi. He sweeps his hair up and back, dresses in a striped white suit and a purplish-red shirt with the top buttons undone, and tops it off with the piece de resistance: a pair of snazzy reddish sunglasses. Oh so chic! He seems to put quite a bit of effort into looking stylish. At least he seems to amuse Akagi somewhat.
Lastly, he doesn’t believe in instinct. He plays by the numbers, and doing otherwise would probably make him break out in a cold sweat. Akagi’s uncanny instinct and unnatural abilities scare him, and he’d much rather not believe in such things. When his calculations don’t pan out, he goes into a panic and becomes essentially useless.
He’s young, he’s naïve, and it shows. He’s my second-favourite character. His name… is a spoiler from Episode 14, Washizu arc. It’s (highlight to read) Hirayama Yukio (平山 幸雄).

KAWADA GROUP UNDERBOSS ISHIKAWA (石川)
voiced by Fukuda Nobuaki (福田 信昭)
He studied the man before him dubiously. So this was Akagi? He did indeed look like him – same face, same hair colour – but there was something… missing. Something that had made Akagi different from other gamblers. Compared to that strange boy from six years ago, this man was… second-rate. A disappointment. Ishikawa frowned. If his boss depended on someone like that, it would only lead to folly. He had to do something.

Ishikawa is the Kawada Group Boss’s right-hand man. He sees another Akagi after meeting up with the Fake Akagi and knows that the brutal, cold man before him is the real thing. He just has to make sure, with the help of a third party…

KAWADA GROUP BOSS (川田)
voiced by Kawashibo Hiroshi (川久保 潔)
Kawada is the leader of the Kawada Group. He chooses to use the brush-headed Akagi as his rep player, despite his dubious identity, because Kawada admires his by-the-numbers playing style. Once the other Akagi starts having problems, though, he changes his mind.

OSAMU (治)
voiced by Sato Youudai (佐藤 雄大)
Akagi-san was incredible, amazing, cool, like nobody he’d ever seen before. Akagi-san was everything he wasn’t, but maybe, just maybe, he could learn to be like that too.

Osamu is a timid young man (or boy. It’s rather hard to tell) from the toy factory in which Akagi works for a time. He latches onto Akagi after the man saves him from some Mahjong-hustling coworkers, and doesn’t let go until Akagi goes that one little bit too far. Oh well, he’s probably better off not associating with Akagi, anyway.
