Urabe Arc Characters cont’d

THE THREE FACTORY WORKERS Kawashima (川島), voiced by Kuroda Takaya (黒田崇矢) Nagasawa (田原), voiced by Miyake Kenta (三宅健太) Furuya (古谷), voiced by Nakamura Yuichi (中村悠一) Kawashima tried not to smile as he “lost” again. Osamu was an easy mark. The kid didn’t suck at Mahjong, but he was completely clueless when it came to anything that wasn’t strictly clean gameplay. He made eye contact with Nagasawa and Furuya. They both nodded slightly, and the game went on.

These three are Akagi and Osamu’s Mahjong-hustling coworkers. They have a good thing going… until they meet Akagi. It’s clear that these low-level cheaters haven’t heard of him. They accept Akagi’s seemingly simple challenge, and things go rapidly downhill from there.

URABE (浦部) voiced by Kazama Morio (風間杜夫) He could barely hold back his laughter. That Akagi or whoever-he-was really was an idiot. Maybe if he practised for another hundred years he’d be a bit more of a challenge. What a fool. How did he hope to ever get anywhere in this world if he got rattled so easily? Urabe lit another cigarette. Really now, the Kawada Group had to be getting desperate if they needed to use a kid like that. Heh. He’d take them for everything they had.

Urabe is Akagi’s Kansai-ben-speaking, buck-toothed opponent. Seriously, his teeth stick straight out from his face! After Urabe crushes the Fake Akagi, Akagi eventually takes over and, with a bit of planning, gives him the beating of a lifetime. Urabe is certainly smarting after this game of Mahjong.

FUJISAWA GROUP BOSS (藤沢)

voiced by Kayumi Iemasa (家弓家正)

Fujisawa decides to come over and observe Akagi and Urabe’s match after the wager skyrockets, apparently to make sure everybody stays honest. Of course, Urabe is his rep player and doing quite well, so it is in his best interest to make sure Kawada pays up. It’s probably just me, but there’s something creepy about Fujisawa. Must be the abnormally wide eyes.
