This is after the Urabe (kansai-ben speaking dude) episode, which was not shown in the anime due to episode limitations. This guy called Nakai asks Osamu to introduce him to Akagi for a Mahjong match. Of course, Osamu has no idea of Akagi’s whereabouts when Akagi suddenly shows up with the money he owes Osamu for the Urabe match (not that Osamu lent him money). It was like 2 million yen. Surprisingly, Akagi is very courteous on money… or simply not interested in it at all. Just a tool for all his gambling entertainments… Akagi inevitably accepts Nakai’s challenge and asks Osamu to lend the money he just gave him.

Still not clearly told, one thing that’s for sure is that Akagi spends 2-4 million yen (20-30 million yen these days) in 2-3 days just to play (asobo). He wouldn’t spend that much smoking… nor does he look that charitable… my number one guess is women and drinking!
